WHY WE OFFER A SLIDING SCALE
Kuuma Yoga is a Karma Yoga Studio. This means that the classes and memberships that we offer are donation based. The sliding scale is a structure to suggest how much you can pay for each class. You can contribute more or less than the suggested donation. All passes are available for purchase on the app ScheduleHouse or click HERE to purchase passes on your web browser (still through ScheduleHouse).
It is our belief that yoga should be accessible for all people - especially those in vulnerable communities and of lesser economic advantage. We acknowledge that yoga is a sacred cultural practice borrowed from South Asia and we do our best not to appropriate Indian culture by picking and choosing only what we want from the practice. Our staff and teachers believe in furthering their education, becoming trauma-informed, and waking up to problematic structures in our world like: systematic oppression, racism and misogyny. We believe that yoga should not be commodified due to its cultural roots, and that is the foundation for why we offer a sliding scale pricing system.
We are not a discounted yoga studio.
The sliding scale is a structure of suggested prices for the services that we offer. We know what other studios and gyms charge for the exact service that we are offering. The sliding allows you to pay more for your class so that someone else can come for less. This is Karma Yoga. Selfless service.
We are happy to offer memberships for less than this to people who are in need. This system requires integrity (tell the truth when no one would know). We don’t ask for income verification because we trust you to pay what you can. If you currently are a member at another studio and can afford to pay their membership rates, then we ask that you please pay the same amount when you use our services. Please think of us when you are choosing your membership price each month.
It is also our belief that all people deserve to practice yoga free of abuse, harassment or manipulation. We have a no-tolerance policy on sexual misconduct. You can find our misconduct policy on the studio waiver (that all students are required to sign before practicing or purchasing a membership).
